The BBC has announced that John Barrowman and Eva Myles are set to return to their roles as Captain Jack Harness and Gwen Cooper for a fourth ten part series of Torchwood.

Having secured additional funding from an American cable network, Starz Entertainment (the station behind the lavishly violent Spartacus: Blood And Sand), the series will reportedly expand upon its Cardiff confines and will, according to the BBC, “include locations in the US and around the world.”

Torchwood creator Russell T Davis will stay on as executive producer, and will head up a writing team to begin work on the series.

“We have a long history of working with many US networks but it is incredibly exciting to be working with Starz for the first time, as well as to be reunited with the best of British in Russell, Jane and Julie,” Ben Stephenson, BBC drama controller, told the Guardian. “Torchwood will burst back onto the screen with a shocking and moving story with global stakes and locations that will make it feel bigger and bolder than ever.”

The fourth Torchwood series will represent Captain Jack’s return to the screen after last July’s five part series Children Of Earth. No word yet on when the new episodes will be likely to air, but as soon as we hear, we’ll let you know.
